Teachers Protest School Closures in Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, many teachers have gone to the High Court to stop the government from closing primary schools with fewer students. These schools are called "Prasiddh Vidyalayas" and are known in villages for giving free education to poor children. The teachers say the government does not want poor children to study. They feel the government now sees the education of poor children as a burden.

Teacher Himanshu Rana, who is leading the protest, says the decision to close schools is very dangerous. He says children aged 6 to 14 years will lose their right to free and basic education. This is against their fundamental rights given by the Constitution.

According to the new order, about 27,000 schools will be closed or merged across the state. This is a very big number. These schools are in villages where most children come from poor families. Many of them walk to school because it is nearby. If their school closes, they may have to walk very far or even stop going to school.

The Education Department and Village Development Department are asking school committees to agree to the closure. They are trying very hard to get signatures. Even the District Magistrate is getting involved. But many Village Heads, BDC members, and School Management Committee chairpersons are against the plan.

These leaders say this is not the right time. Panchayat elections are coming, and people are angry. If schools close now, it will hurt children and the village’s trust in the government.

The teachers also say that for many years, the government took money in the name of improving education. They talked about innovation, smart classrooms, better quality learning, and so on. But now, instead of making schools better, they are just closing them.

Himanshu Rana says closing schools is like giving up. He says, “If a part of the body becomes weak, we treat it. We don’t declare the whole person dead and start preparing for last rites.” He compares the school to a human body. Even if the student number is low, the solution is not to shut down the school. The solution is to improve it.

He says that instead of helping government schools, officers encouraged the opening of private schools. These schools charged money and slowly took away students. That is why the number of students in government schools went down. If the government had fixed problems like a lack of books, teachers, toilets, clean water, and proper classrooms, children would have stayed.

But now, instead of fixing the problems, the government is saying the school has fewer children and should be closed. Himanshu Rana and his group say this is not fair. It is not the fault of the children. It is not the fault of the parents. It is not the fault of the school. It is the fault of the system that didn’t support these schools.

Now the Education Department wants to merge schools. That means two or more small schools will be joined into one. But this will create many problems. Children will have to travel far. Some may not go to school at all. Teachers will have more students than they can handle. And the bond between the school and the village will be broken.

Many school buildings will be locked and unused. They may get damaged or misused. In many villages, schools are not just for education. They are also used as community centers during elections, health camps, and meetings. Closing them will hurt the entire community.

The Village Management Committees (VMCs), which are made up of local parents and leaders, are strongly opposing the move. They are saying that their voice was not heard before the decision. Many say that government officers are forcing them to sign the merger form. But they don’t want their village school to close.

Some teachers say the government is only looking at numbers. If there are fewer students, they say the school is not needed. But teachers ask – is this fair? Can education be counted only in numbers? What about the dreams of the poor children? What about their right to sit in a class, read a book, and learn something new every day?

Himanshu Rana and his team, known as the "Shiksha Sangharsh Morcha," are now trying to stop this policy. They are visiting schools, talking to people, and spreading awareness. They say that every child has the right to study. And every village has the right to have its school.

They believe that if proper steps are taken, student numbers can increase again. They suggest that schools should be given better classrooms, sports facilities, computer labs, trained teachers, and good mid-day meals. If children feel happy and safe in school, they will come back.

Many people in the village say that their children are too young to go far. If their school is merged and moved, they will not send their daughters. This may cause a big drop in girls’ education. That is another reason why the school merger plan is being criticized.

Parents say education is not just about books. It is also about care, trust, and connection. In small village schools, teachers know every student. They know their homes, their problems, and their strengths. This bond is lost in big schools.

The protest is getting stronger every day. Teachers are writing to the Chief Minister. They are using social media. They are going to court. They are doing everything they can to save the schools.

In court, the teachers are saying that this decision breaks the Right to Education Act. This law says that every child has the right to free education near their home. If the school is closed, this right will be taken away.

Education experts also agree that instead of closing schools, the government should work on fixing the problems. A school is not just about numbers. It is about hope. It is about the future. It is about giving every child a chance to dream.

Now the people are waiting to see what the High Court will say. Till then, teachers like Himanshu Rana and groups like Shiksha Sangharsh Morcha are standing strong. They are fighting not just for buildings, but for the future of poor children across the state.

NIPUN App Upgrade to Track Student Learning in UP Schools

To improve the learning level of students in Uttar Pradesh government schools, the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan's State Project Office has upgraded the NIPUN app. This app will help teachers, school heads, and officers understand how well students are learning in real time. Every teacher must now use this app to assess at least five students from their class each week.

This new step will help in finding out the learning level of every child. It is very important because it helps teachers know which student needs more help. The goal of the NIPUN app is to make sure that all students in classes 1 to 8 are learning well.

For this, a special question bank has been made. This question bank has different questions for each subject, like Hindi, English, Math, and EVS. The questions in the app are designed to test the student’s understanding. These are not just memory-based questions, but help check what the child understands.

When teachers open the app, they will get random questions for each student. These questions will not be the same every time. The app will choose the questions automatically. This keeps the process fair and gives a clear picture of how well the student is doing.

If a student gives the wrong answer, the app will give suggestions for support. This way, the teacher will know which student needs help and in which topic. The teacher can then plan extra lessons for that student.

The app has teaching plans for 25 weeks. Teachers have to follow these plans and do the assessments according to the schedule. They can see what topics to teach and what questions to ask at what time. This helps in planning better lessons.

Teachers, supervisors, and master trainers are all part of this app. They can see the progress of the students and also give feedback. Based on the student’s answers, the app shows the performance and understanding level immediately.

The app will work only on working days. It will be closed on Sundays and other holidays. Also, once a teacher completes the evaluation for two schools, that part of the app will get locked. This is done to avoid duplicate entries.

According to the Director General Kanchan Verma, the academic Resource Persons (ARPs) will visit 30 schools every month. They will check if the app is being used properly. Similarly, State Resource Group (SRG) and DIET mentors will also visit 10 schools every month. They will observe if the students are being assessed and helped as planned.

The ERPs will divide their visits into different classes. That means they will not check only one class, but will look at how learning is happening in all classes from 1 to 8. This gives a full picture of learning in the school.

The assessment of students will take place every three months. This is called a quarterly assessment. After each assessment, the performance will be shown in the app according to the level of the child. This means if a child is in class 5 but is learning at a class 3 level, the app will show this clearly.

Teachers will also have to give feedback and make a remedial plan after each assessment. A remedial plan means extra help for students who are not doing well. This is very important because it ensures that no child is left behind.

All the data from the app will be used in monthly review meetings. Basic Education Officers and Block Education Officers will see the app data and understand how the children are doing. If a school is doing very well, it will be appreciated. If some schools are not doing well, they will get support and help to improve.

With the start of the new school year, the State Project Director has sent a clear order to all Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) and school heads. They have to make sure that all teachers in their schools are using the app. This is not optional. It is now part of their teaching work.

To help teachers understand how to use the app, a user manual has also been shared. This manual tells them how to log in, how to do assessments, how to check results, and how to make plans for weak students. This step makes the app easy to use for all teachers, even those who are not very used to smartphones.

This app is a big step in making sure that all children in government schools of Uttar Pradesh get a good education. With regular assessments, feedback, and support, students will improve slowly but surely. The NIPUN app also makes the work of the teachers and officers more organized and data-based.

Earlier, it was difficult to know which students were weak and which were strong. Now, with the help of this app, every child’s learning status will be known. And help will be given immediately. This makes the education system fairer and stronger.

Also, since the app shows performance data, teachers will be more serious and focused on teaching. They will plan lessons better, give more time to weak students, and improve the overall learning in the class.

The school inspectors and education officers will not need to ask questions anymore about how the students are doing. They can simply check the app and see all the answers. This saves time and brings clarity.

Because of this app, every student will get attention. No one will be missed. Even in big classes, where there are many children, teachers can choose five students every week and check their progress. Slowly, the entire class will be assessed.

This upgrade in the NIPUN app is not just a technical change. It is a big change in the way teaching and learning are done. It brings discipline, focus, planning, and support—all in one place.

The app is also helpful for master trainers and supervisors. They can use the app data to advise teachers. If many students in a class are weak in Math, the supervisor can suggest some good teaching methods. This teamwork will help in improving results faster.

Parents, too, can be informed based on the data from the app. They will know how their child is doing and what extra help is needed at home. This builds trust between parents and the school.

In the future, if this app is used well, the learning level in UP government schools will go up. More students will reach the right learning level for their class. The gap between private and government school students will also become smaller.

This step by the State Project Office and the Basic Education Department is being welcomed by teachers and officers. Everyone wants to see good results from students. And with the NIPUN app, this dream can come true.

Teachers' Self-Care team Kanyadaan Scheme 2025 Rules and Benefits

The Teachers' Self-Care team has started the much-awaited Kanyadaan Scheme from 1st June 2025. This is a helpful plan for teachers or members whose daughters are getting married. Under the TSCT rules, financial help will be given to eligible teachers for the wedding of their daughters. Only legal members of the TSCT can get benefits. The help is given for one daughter only, whether elder or younger. A teacher must join this scheme before 55 years age of, and the help can be taken till 62. A 5-year lock-in period will be applied after receiving the benefit. Teachers must be active members and follow all rules to get help.

If a teacher has adopted a daughter legally before the age of 5, then she is also eligible. The committee will check the legal papers. If both husband and wife are teachers and members, then help will be given to one daughter at a time. If there are two daughters, then support may be given for both if both parents are members and follow the rules.

The scheme is optional. If a member does not join, it will not affect the main plan of TSCT. Teachers can still help families of passed-away teachers without joining the Kanyadaan scheme. Only those who have paid the fixed support fees can get the benefits. To receive help, fees must be deposited 3 months in advance. From 1st June 2026, 2 years of continued payment will be needed.

Only those teachers who have completed 2 years in TSCT and given 90% help in all past cases will get this help first. After receiving the benefit once, the teacher must follow some extra rules. They must keep helping other teacher families and pay all future fees for 5 years. A legal affidavit must be submitted to the district or state team.

The application for help must be made 3 months before the wedding. In special cases, if time is less, the member must inform the core team as soon as possible. The team will try to provide help before the marriage. But sometimes delays may happen due to checking or too many requests. Members should not pressure the team for fast help. The team has the full right to check all papers and photos of the bride and groom. The member must prove that the girl is his or her daughter. A proper photo of both bride and groom is required at the time of application.

The support amount is not fixed. In the beginning, the plan is to provide around 5 lakh rupees or more as help. This amount may change as per need and funds. The money will be collected from other TSCT members, and the team may transfer the help directly into the member's bank account or give it through a cheque. The team will maintain transparency by showing the total amount collected and given. If the wedding has already happened before the plan started, then no help will be given for that wedding.

If any member tries to misuse or hide facts, or if someone tries to spoil the image of the scheme or the team, their membership will be cancelled. The team also has the right to stop or recover the help amount from such people. This scheme is not right, but a request for help based on moral values. No one can demand help or fix an amount or ask for help on a certain date. The team cannot be forced to provide help. It will be given only if all rules are followed. Members are expected to join this scheme not to get money but to help other teachers.

If someone has already received help, he or she must submit an affidavit and promise to keep supporting the committee’s work. They must also pay their part in all future support. If needed, the team can ask for a security cheque and return it later after confirming all duties are fulfilled. If someone breaks the rules after getting help, the team can take legal action and recover the amount. The team will not use the support money for personal use. It will go only to the teacher families who need help.

The committee has the full right to make final decisions in any case. It can change the rules as needed. Any court matter related to the scheme will only be settled in the Prayagraj district court.

This scheme is for moral support and not a fixed benefit. Members must join with the spirit of helping, not just for personal gain. The Teachers Self-Care Committee only appeals for help; it does not promise a fixed amount or date. The support depends on many things, like the number of cases, funds, and checking. If someone tries to damage the name of the committee or spread lies, then they can be removed from the scheme and banned from receiving benefits. The committee has the full right to take all such actions.

This scheme shows the power of togetherness among teachers. It gives a helping hand to those who need support during their daughter’s marriage. With clear rules and moral values, it brings kindness and unity to the teacher community. All members are requested to support this with honesty and care.

Overall, the Kanyadaan Scheme is a beautiful and meaningful step towards helping teacher families. It is a symbol of love, support, and social unity. By following all rules and working together, members can make this scheme successful and helpful for many in need. The scheme is designed with fairness, transparency, and strict guidelines so that only those who truly need and deserve the help can get it.

Only with truth, discipline, and cooperation can this noble cause reach its full purpose. The TSCT hopes all teachers will understand the value of this scheme and contribute not just as members but as human beings who care. The success of this scheme depends on each member's honesty and goodwill. Let’s work together to make this a great example of collective support in the teaching community.

If you are a teacher and want to join the Kanyadaan Scheme, please do it before you turn 55. Pay your support fees on time, follow all rules, and support other teachers. Together, we can bring smiles to many families. Let this mission of support and kindness continue with full energy and honesty.
